Next to the monthly Hard Budget Cap; Cortex also offers the option of setting a monthly Soft Budget Cap with a non-recurring Surge Budget for those on the Pay-as-you-go plan, providing cost management flexibility within each monthly billing cycle.
Soft Budget Cap is valid for ALL Runners with their Cost Management is selected as Pay-as-you-go. (cf. Create a Runner to Run Applications, )
Soft Budget Caps are designed to offer a more flexible spending limit for your Pay-as-you-go Runners, compared to a Hard Budget Cap. Soft Budget Cap allows Pay-as-you-go expenses to exceed the set limit up to a certain point, thanks to the inclusion of a Surge Budget.
To configure a Monthly Soft Budget Cap, navigate to the Spend Limits section found under the Pay-as-you-go graphs in the Current Costs area within Organization Settings. Soft Budget Cap not only sets a preliminary spending threshold but also incorporates a Surge Budget for unexpected increases in resource usage.
The non-recurring Surge Budget is a predefined amount of funds that can be used once the Soft Budget Cap is reached, preventing immediate service interruption due to budget constraints.
Surge Budget is non-recurring, meaning it's designed to absorb sporadic spikes in usage within multiple billing cycles without becoming a permanent addition to the Soft Budget Cap.
Adjustments or removal of the Monthly Soft Budget Cap can be done through the Spend Limits section found under the Pay-as-you-go graphs in the Current Costs area within Organization Settings.
This flexibility ensures that organizations can respond to changing financial or operational circumstances, adjusting their budget caps as necessary.
